Black Hills Innovation Group Introduces IV Derma-Safe®

The Black Hills Innovation Group, LLC (the Group) was founded in January of 2010. The corporate mission is to develop, manufacture and market medical products that address patient care improvements both in hospital settings and in first responder situations. The initial products are devices that were developed as a result of the founder's experiences in the emergency medical care environment.

The principals of the Group bring a wide variety of skill sets to bear in creating and developing the proposed product line. The talents brought together in this company include the ability to identify current needs, the skill and creativity to design products which address those needs, the experience needed for production in a manufacturing environment, and the business acumen to structure a viable organization that can put these new products in the skilled hands of medical professionals worldwide.

The flagship product, IV Derma-Safe®, addresses the currently recognized need for a means by which to secure an IV line without using tape as the primary means of holding the IV set in place. Tape injuries and irritations are a significant problem causing unnecessary pain for the patients and costing the medical industry millions annually for treatment related to those injuries.

Reduction of costs associated with treatment from injuries caused by tape removal, as experienced using standard IV sets, has also been recognized by the insurance industry and hospital administrators. Costs for care of these injuries will inevitably be pushed back on the care providers.

This is the only known device on the market today that does not use tape secured to the skin as part of the IV line stabilization. Eliminating the use of tape is essential to eliminating skin irritation and skin tear injury occurrences in high-risk patients. This high-risk patient group includes the elderly, burn patients, newborns, and others with fragile skin conditions, as well as patients with adhesive allergies.

In addition to the initial product offering, the Group has several products in development that will address various medical concerns. These products are innovative in design and attend to issues not currently being addressed in the medical supply field. These devices are in the prototype stage and will soon enter into the engineering phase of development.
